Cheap Holidays to Marmaris Take You to Fantastic Places
A port city
located in the Mugla Province along the Turkish Riviera's shoreline, Marmaris
is also known as a centre for diving and sailing. Until the late 20th century,
this popular tourist destination of Turkey was a sleepy little fishing village.
The construction boom of the 1980s developed it into a major tourist resort,
attracting plenty of visitors from different parts of the world. During the
peak tourist season, the numbers of travellers arriving in this Turkish coastal
city far surpasses its overall resident population.
During your
cheap
holidays to Marmaris, you'll get to visit its most popular attractions.
Among them are some fascinating beaches, beautiful towns and villages,
mountains, bays, and coves. You'll also come across some historical places that
remind you of the ancient empires that ruled this region in the past. Going on
one of the excursions booked with a local tour operator would be the best way
to explore all the renowned sights of this wonderful Turkish coastal city. You
can begin from Central Marmaris, which would take you to the districts of
Armutalan and Siteler. Don't forget to visit the historical centre, the marina,
and the harbour.
Within the
distance of 50 kilometres from the central part of the city, you'll have many
charming places and interesting sights worth exploring. Among them is the
well-known Marmaris Castle, which is believed to have been built by the Ionians
in 1044 BC and repaired during the years that followed by the kings or emperors
that ruled the region. Some massive restoration and widening works were carried
out on this castle during the reign of Suleyman the Magnificent. Today, this
castle houses the Marmaris Archaeology Museum, which is home to seven indoor
sections. Two of these sections are being used as the ethnography lounge and
archaeology lounge.
Besides the
popular beaches like Uzunyali and Icmeler, you can also explore some
mesmerising beaches outside the city limits. One of them is the Kizkumu Beach
located about 26.4 kilometres from Marmaris in the town of Orhaniye. You can
also head to Cleopatra Island about 18 kilometres away from the Turkish city to
visit its popular beach. The golden sands of this beach would give you some
pleasant moments as you walk through the sandy stretch. It is believed that the
Egyptian Pharaoh, Cleopatra, used to swim in the waters that touch this beach.
Located
about 80 kilometres south-east of the city is a picturesque region called
Dalyan. It is home to the popular golden beach of Iztuzu, the sea turtles, and
a healthy mud bath, which is enjoyed by many tourists every year. This region
can be explored with the help of boat trips taken from the city. During your
trip, you'll also get the chance to witness the ancient city of Kaunos. It was
founded by the son of Miletos, known as Kaunos, during the 10th century BC.
Kaunos was known far and wide for its commerce and production of salt in ancient
times. You can see the remains of this intriguing archaeological site during
your boat trip to Dalyan.
